Access runtime will not start on Windows 10 Enterprise - Super User.
We need to think about updating some laptops and have found it impossible to get nice ones dell xps 13 for example that will still run Windows 7.
We are not great fans of Windows But it seems that we have to tow the line. Does anyone have experience running access on windows 10?
I know Microsoft says it is not supported, but this does not mean it will necessarily not work. I do not want to move to later versions of access as we will loose replication ability. Any ideas? PlayMisty Previously Rainlover.
Local time Today, Joined Oct 23, Messages Exactly what does not work. Is the problem with Windows 10 or the version of Access that you are forced to use. If it is Access you should be able to run two different versions at the same time. I run and on both my Lap top and my PC. However there is another issue which I have forgotten the answer to.
I am about to post a question on that issue in a new thread. The title will be driver not compatible with Windows Local time Today, Joined Feb 19, Messages 14, You must log in or register to reply here. Similar threads. Windows 10 - Access not working from shortcut.

Thank you to anyone who responds. What you described an Excel feature. You can find Fill Across Sheets under the Home tab: find the Editing block, and the icon is a down-pointing arrow.
If you prefer Office , you might be a candidate for Libre Office. Sharing a file between 2 machines using Libre Office generally has fewer inconsistencies. I use Office on Windows 7. Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to. Having pictures besides the labels helps a lot. But for those who refuse to adapt, I do have a solution. Install the older operating system and the older software in the VM and run it from there. I had to do that for a while until a piece of software I use every week got updated to work in Windows 7.
Hi, James B. I find myself having to create macros for all too many things in order to shorten the number of clicks it takes to accomplish what Word did in one click. And the floating toolbars were genius! Why they were eliminated is beyond belief, especially when Microsoft wants you to believe that each new version is better than the last.
The complete customizability has never been seen since. I actually keep both office and office on my computer… but I only use if I have the choice. I want to create text, and create images, and keep them together.
The drawing tools in all the newer versions are a nightmare. We have also upgraded all but one it is a tablet on 8. The two main systems we use also have Office installed. Until the Fall Creators Update, we have had no problems with Office. The latest update killed Outlook for my wife. Since neither of us has any use for Word we do word processing in Excel as it gives better control of the output and does NOT screw with the text we are happy that Excel still works fine.
If Office starts giving me problems, I will probably try my old Office 97 or resort to any of the several Office alternatives.
Something which helped me transition to Excel was Ubit menu. I liked Excel too! I am happily using Office and Windows 10 with all Windows 10 updates applied. So far, no problems at all. I was pretty much forced into buying Office , which to be honest I should have done earlier. It would have been nice to get some warning though! It would have been interesting to see if a clean install from scratch of would have resolved the issue.
I have a copy of Office and prefer this simple program to other Office iterations. Office is installed and used on my Windows 10 computer and works through all of the Windows10 updates.
I also have Office installed on the same computer since it is easier to open newer Office files. This double installation causes some problems because microsoft thinks that the Office program should always overwrite programs. Sure wish FrontPage could be rehabilitated by Microsoft.
Was so easy for amateurs like me. Another option might be to use a virtual machine. I have some legacy software that will not run on anything more current than Vista. I used VMware workstation pro to create a virtual machine from my old laptop which allows me to run Vista as a quest on my new Win10 host. I had used microsoft virtual pc many years previously but vmware is much better and the vista quest performs very well.
Another advantage is the vista guest can be backed up so if the host fails I can just restore the guest file and I am back in business in minutes.
I trained on Office , but have since used , , and the newer versions under the Office schemes — and In my opinion it is better to evolve with the changes over time, than to be forced into an abrupt change in a crisis situation. Just got new features added in an update on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Windows 7 on a Dell Optiplex.
I am still troubled with opening folders on the desktop. It either says there is no suitable program to open the folder or it defaults to trying to open it with VLC media player! It happened after an update. I restored to before the update and all was fine. But I like to keep the thing up to date. So annoying. I have to right click and click open to see the content of the folder. If by folders, you mean files, these articles explain how to set or change default programs for opening files.
My family is using five PCs, all fully updated to the latest Windows 10 and all but one are using Word We are heavy users of Word , using it daily and often. I have had only one problem with Word and that was easily fixed with a Repair function of a reinstall. Otherwise, Word and Windows 10 get along just fine. Why v. Yup, I hate the ribbon because it takes up too much space which is a real problem on the laptops but mostly because the ribbon cannot be extensively customized the way I like it.
When I need a function, it slows me down to have to click to a different tab to find what I need where my customized menus in Word have what I need just a single click away. Belonging to a computer user group, we sometimes have friendly competitions where everybody creates a document to see who can type and format fastest.
Most of my friends are using newer versions of Word which involves using the ribbon where I am using Word with my customized menus all showing on the borders of my interface. My point is that four fully updated versions of Windows 10 v work just fine with Word My updated Windows 10 machines can run software that a new install of Windows 10 cannot. That gives me more screen real estate than using the Office tool bar and when I need it I click on the text menu bar to bring up a ribbon when I need it.
That caused me problems until I found it and shut it off. Since Office is no longer supported, it cannot be updated and so apparently caused problems with updates to Windows itself. I bought a new PC last year with Windows 10 and loaded my existing purchased version of Office I chose to do this as, along with others on here, I was very comfortable with the software particularly Excel which did everything I wanted.
Word, PowerPoint and others are all fine but Excel is dead. Every time, it attempts to do a calculation, the program just shuts down. Even Copy and Paste shuts the software down. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can go back to the situation pre the automatic Windows 10 update?
You might try reinstalling it, but you might also simply be out of luck. You probably already know your options: revert to an older version of Windows, upgrade to a newer version of Office, or switch to OpenOffice or LibreOffice after confirming they meet your needs — they, too, are different. My Excel worked fine with Windows 10 until the last update — which MS says is a critical update — a few days ago.
Since then it shuts down when I try and enter data. I reloaded Office , but still the same. I had the same problem as you after the Windows 10 update in May If I try to paste into a Excel spreadsheet or format a cell the program crashes. However, I reinstalled Excel , and it works! Does anybody have any ideas how to get round this? Can I access to tables in database Access 97 example test. It really depends on the features used in the database. Perhaps backup the database first.
Microsoft removed essential features from old versions of Office. Many users are stranded and unable to upgrade or face enormous loss of customization. Microsoft bragged that Access still worked in Windows Yet they turn blind eye to users of Access by forcing installation of Access , which causes the errors mentioned in this article.
The debugging needed to keep Access and Excel 03 running cleanly is minuscule. Looking for an update about Access We run our accounting office with Access There is much code added to it but for some reason would could never compile it to a later version of Access. We are stuck with it. In light of Win 7 coming to an end we have no alternative but to upgrade to Win Does anyone know if Access still works in Win10?
If not, can the program be installed in the compatibility mode and still work? I have happily used these parts of Office since they were released in and have stayed with them trouble free through three different Dell PCs and umpteen releases of Windows including a free upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Unfortunately, 17 years after investing in Office and quickly advancing years myself, I could not find the original installation disks.
To my surprise it seemed to install correctly and I was able to load an Excel spreadsheet OK. So I tried to replace the Excel 97 runtime program, Excel. Is there any way that I can get Office particularly Excel installed on my new Windows 10 PC without having an installation disk for that version? The installation of Windows programs has files scattered in several places and needs the correct registry settings to make them work.
One thing you can do is install Libre Office. Can you copy a program file to another computer and run it? Where are you, Grandpa David? Perhaps I could mail them over, you do the install, and then send them back??
Let me know. If you no longer use that version of Office, you can give him the code to transfer ownership of the program. I still keep my 15 years old computer with XP and Office , because I still need Publisher to maintain my website. And I have heard that Microsoft is now dropping web creation functionality in their latest versions of Publisher…. My old XP computer still run like a Swiss watch and start a lot faster than my newer computer with Windows There is no use to make new computers times faster if new operating systems are times more complicated and demanding.
